Programul IST, ca parte a Programului Cadru 6 (FP6), beneficiaza
de un
buget total de 3625 milioane de euro. Din aceste fonduri,
1070 milioane au
fost alocate primei cereri de proiecte care are ca termen
limita data 24
aprilie 2003. Printre obiectivele startegice ale primei cereri
de propuneri
se numara interfetele modale, interconectarea companiilor
si a guvernelor,
eHealth, eSafety, largirea spectrului de frecvente (Broadband
for all),
sisteme mobile si wireless dincolo de 3G etc. Instrumentele
programului IST
sunt: proiectele integrate, retelele de excelenta, proiectele
de cercetare,
care vizeaza o chestiune specifica, actiunile de cordonare
si sustinere,
primele doua fiind considerate elemente esentiale pentru atingerea
obiectivelor strategice ale Programului Cadru 6.
