Advanced Technology Systems - ATS anunta lansarea oficiala la
data de 23 iunie 2003 la sediul Primariei sectorului 2 din strada
Olari, a primului sistem vocal de informare din tara, la nivel
de Consiliu Local.

Advanced Technology Systems - ATS anunta lansarea oficiala la
data de 12 iunie 2003 la sediul Primariei sectorului 2 din strada
Olari, a sistemului informatic de interogare si consultare a
taxelor si impozitelor prin telefon, de apelare si instiintare
automata a contribuabililor, pus la dispozitia cetatenilor din
sectorul 2 Bucuresti, primul sistem din municipiul Bucuresti
de acest gen si al doilea din Romania.

Helsinki, 23 May, 2003 (Esmerk) - In Finland, about 50,000 companies
used the electronic services with the authorities in 2002. A
total of 5.5 million messages were sent between companies and
the authorities, of which 3.9 million were sent to the tax authorities.
In the first quarter of 2003, the services have been used already
for 2.2 million times.

The German Federal Minister of the Interior Otto Schily on 23/6/2003
drew a positive picture of the use of open source software (OSS)
in the public sector. One year after the launch of an "OSS for
the administration" project, the balance is very positive, he
said. Mr Schily was speaking at a press conference organised
for celebrating the first year of an agreement signed between
the Ministry and IBM to promote the use of OSS within the administration.

The TeleCities 2003 Summer Event on eDemocracy and Smart Cities
took place in Tampere, Finland on 25-27 June. The Conference
on 26 June started with a plenary session in the morning witnessing
important contributions from two keynote speakers, Mr Sharma,
Professor of Telecommunications at the Asian Institute of Technology,
who presented a global and particularly Asian perspective, whilst
Stephen Coleman, Professor of eDemocracy at the University of
Oxford, focused on a European perspective of eDemocracy.

The Government should subsidise home broadband connections for
key workers, according to a UK think tank report. Broadening
Horizons: Why broadband matters, published by the Centre for
Reform and sponsored by NTL, argues that cheaper broadband would
allow teachers and doctors to work online at home, increasing
their efficiency as well as boosting broadband take-up.

The South Pacific Island of Niue has become the first country
to provide free Wi-Fi Internet access to all residents. There
are only 1,800 people living on this 260 square kilometer raised
coral atoll, situated off the north-east of New Zealand. But
thanks to the Niue Internet Users Society the islanders - along
with all tourists and business travelers - now have free access
to an open 802.11b Wireless Access Point.

Hub, their stories can be found on-line. As part of the "Storytelling
in the Liberties" project, hundreds of students in central Dublin
have been able to write illustrated stories, some of which include
audio clips, aimed at giving readers a glimpse into their dreams

The Electoral Reform Society has dismissed the concept of voting
by internet, telephone, digital television or text messaging
as a means of raising turnout significantly. However, the Society

Spain's new visual image for its e-administration drive demonstrates
how e-government can help to foster the adoption of marketing
and branding techniques in the public sector
The Spanish Ministry of Public Administration recently decided
to give a new promotional image to the country's e-government
drive. This promotional image, consisting in a new logo that
will have to be used by all public bodies engaged in delivering
public services electronically, will become an element of identification
for all e-government activities, projects and measures in Spain's
central administrations.
